Embracing Fair Housing Month: Equality Starts at Home

Updated: 2 days ago

Fair Housing Month is observed every April in the United States to raise awareness about equitable housing opportunities for all Americans, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability. It commemorates the successful passing of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, a landmark civil rights law signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. It prohibits discrimination in selling, renting, advertising, and financing houses based on these protected characteristics.

Equality in housing helps provide the foundation upon which aspirations and productive lives are built. This revolutionary legislation preserves every person’s freedom to obtain the housing of their choice. For more information about housing rights, visit the Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity website.

Berman Hopkins Public Housing Authority Group

With over 80 years of combined experience, our Berman Hopkins Public Housing Authority (PHA) Group is recognized nationwide for working with PHAs to ensure compliance with fair housing laws and regulations related to the use of their federal funds. Because of limited resources, most Public Housing Authorities desire the audit process to be more than just issuing financial statements. We believe in this as well.

We actively champion and work to further the missions of our Public Housing Authority clients in many ways. Our strategic plan emphasizes proactive, prompt, and personal service. Annually, our firm conducts audits for more than $17 billion worth of federal awards.
