News Alert: No More House Calls from the IRS

No more house calls from the IRS

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced that IRS personnel will no longer visit your homes or business unannounced to address public confusion and enhance overall safety measures for taxpayers and employees. Unannounced visits will only happen in extremely limited situations.

The change reverses a decades-long practice by IRS revenue officers, the unarmed agency employees whose duties typically include visiting households and businesses to help taxpayers resolve their account balances by collecting unpaid taxes and unfiled returns. Alternatively, taxpayers will receive first-class mailed letters known as 725-Bs to schedule face-to-face meetings at later dates.

Scam artists have appeared at taxpayers' doors posing as IRS agents. This has created confusion, not only for the resident, but local law enforcement. Therefore, the new IRS protocol is an enormous relief and will hopefully increase confidence and improve overall safety for taxpayers. And if the IRS hits you up, take a deep breath and contact us immediately to intervene, as we are your fierce defender!
